  Red Lake Rosie's Rescue
Rescue Information
The Red Lake Indian Reservation is located in north central Minnesota in portions of Clearwater and Beltrami Counties. The Red Lake Tribe has land holdings of 837,736 acres which is about the size of the state of Rhode Island.

Red Lake Rosie's (RLRR) has a permanent shelter on the western boundary of the Red Lake Indian Reservation. The shelter is located 18 miles from the nearest town amid an oak forest.

RLRR rescued 207 animals in 2005, 500 in 2006, 503 in 2007, and 619 in 2008.

The animals are picked up from garbage dumpsters, along highways, and are surrendered by their owners. Most of the animals suffer from disease, starvation, or injury, and many are very young. Some of the animals have mange, which is common in dogs that have malnutrition and disease. The rescued animals are temporarily sheltered at Red Lake Rosie's and then transported to foster homes in the Twin Cities.

Our main financial support over the past four years has been Joan Lawson of the Lawson Family Fund of the St. Paul Foundation, who has generously provided funds for medical needs, neuter/spay, shelter operations, and clinics. In 2008, RLRR received a DJ&T Foundation grant for spay/neuter services and a Charlotte Parks Foundation grant, as well.

RLRR is supported by a group of volunteers in the Twin Cities. They arrange transports for animals and supplies, help with fostering and placements for the animals, provide support at spay/neuter clinics, and fundraise.

The animals are transported to RLRR foster homes; Cause for Paws; Pet Haven; Animal Angels; One Animal at a Time; Southwest Animal Rescue; All Dog Rescue; ARVSS, Madison, WI; Tri-County Humane Society, St. Cloud, MN; Pleading Paws; Minnesota Animal Rescue (MARS); Animal Humane Society; St Francis of Assisi; Second Hand Dogs; Second Chance Dogs; Chaska/Carver Humane Society; Pennington County Humane Society, Thief River Falls, MN; Small Dog Rescue; Minnesota/Wisconsin Collie Rescue; Animal Ark; Wright Way Rescue, Illinois; all of whom help us nurture the animals back to good health and find them homes. We are thankful to all.
